Robby, PT Coaches Girls Soccer to National Title

Big congratulations to our very own Robby Trimbo, PT for coaching his U-18 girls premier team to a national title this past Monday in Boise, ID. The Columbia Timbers U-18 Red team qualified for the national tournament back in June, where they won the regional tournament in Seattle.

The Timbers youth program is no stranger to the U.S. Club soccer national tournament having qualified a team once before. However, this is the first time a Timbers club team has won the title.

The girls started play on Friday in a match against their soon-to-be final game competition, the Scorpions of St. Croix, Minnesota, in a 4-0 battle. Saturday turned out to be a draw at 0-0. Needing a win Sunday to continue in the tournament, the Reds pulled off a 1-0 win in the last two minutes of play, keeping them around for Monday’s finale.

CONGRATS TIMBERS!

Donating to St. Baldrick’s can get you autographed Sounders or Timbers jersey

Sunny Dulai, along with Jodie at Majerus & Co. PT, have stepped up to support Team Sam I Am and the St. Baldrick’s Foundation by shaving their heads. In memory of Sam Marx, several outstanding soccer jerseys have been donated, even in these final weeks before the event. Every donation in increments of 10.00 gets Sunny closer to his goal of raising $1001.00 towards finding the cure for childhood cancers and gets you a chance to win a jersey. The more ten-spots you pledge, the more chances you get at first choice for your favourite!

Jodie, PT loses her locks for childhood cancer

On May 14, 2011, Jodie Paschall-Majerus, PT will hear the buzzing sound that would be hard for any woman to face. Volunteering to be a “shavee” for the St. Baldrick’s foundation, Jodie will have her head shaved bald in return for donations from friends, family, and community members to support childhood cancer research. Jodie is hoping to raise $5,000 to go towards finding cures for childhood cancers and helping survivors live “…long and healthy lives”.

According the the St. Baldrick’s website, “Cancer is the number one disease killer among children in the U.S. and Canada,” stemming from the 160,000 diagnoses of cancer worldwide each year.

Although there are many reason’s to want to support this amazing foundation, Jodie’s biggest motive is to be able to connect with some of her patients at the clinic, many of which who have lost their hair from the processes of chemotherapy.

Please consider helping Jodie out with her donation goal:

Stopping injuries before they start

Last Friday, Majerus & Co. held it’s first ACL prevention screening for a team of young female soccer players. The ACL screening was directed by three of our PT’s – John Majerus, Tara Socquet, and Robby Trimbo. The girls all play on the same team coached by Robby, and made for a great test run to figure out the organization of the screening process.

ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) prevention can play a huge role in a young athlete’s future in sports, especially for females. Research has shown that women have a higher risk of tearing their ACL (which is the main ligament supporting the knee), more prominently in activities such as soccer and basketball. The ACL screening process can help reduce the risk of injury by having athletes perform special types of exercises which focus on muscle strength, movement technique, balance, and body/joint awareness.

Majerus & Co. will continue to refine the program which will allow them to continue the ACL screening process amongst many athletes and teams in the community.

Beginning Pilates class will be held at Majerus & Co. in new year

Time’s running out – Jan. 1st starts new benefit year!

The holiday season can be one of the busiest times of the year for all of us. Shopping for gifts, baking large feasts for our family and friends, and attending all those holiday gatherings can consume most of our time, making it hard for any individual to think about taking care of themselves. However, Majerus & Co. Physical Therapy is not seeing a shortage of business this time of year! As our therapists’ schedules stay full, it is a good reminder to us all that we need to get in those visits before the end of the year, whether it be for physical therapy or any other medical appointment. January 1st is just around the corner, meaning that for most of us, our medical insurance benefits will start over from scratch – hello high deductibles!

As everyone tries to stuff in their last minute appointments into the 2010 year, it makes it even harder to get in to see our physicians and other medical experts. A little tip if I may…don’t wait last minute!
